His story
It started in an Ercoupe.
Chip was six and a half years old the day his dad earned his private pilot certificate. That same day his father took him around the pattern in an old Ercoupe, and he has never looked back.
His path to airline captain and designated pilot examiner took many turns. Many of the pilots who came before him were former military aviators, but Chip traveled an all-civilian route at a time when training was expensive and professional pay was nowhere near what it is today. Along the way he worked in flight instructing, executive charter, seaplane operations, air traffic control and regional airline operations, which gave him a well-rounded perspective on what it takes to succeed in this industry, and the ability to share it.
Many people helped him along the way, and he wanted to pay it forward. He spent time in the Civil Air Patrol, taught and mentored students, and wrote safety articles, then started Safety Chip to widen that reach and help more pilots fly safely and confidently.
Today he brings that same approach to Flight Stars as Chief Pilot. Rather than just teaching the steps, his goal is for every pilot to reach a level of understanding and application that lasts throughout their flying.
